Happy August everyone and Happy Birthday to my fellow August babies! Personally this month is going to be a great one. For me it is filled with so many happy occasions, especially birthdays and weddings. This is a great month to break out all of your beautiful summer colors. How about a gorgeous watermelon tourmaline with a white linen dress? Nothing says summer to me like the vibrant pinks and greens that are naturally meshed together in a piece of "watermelon" tourmaline.
On the opposite side of the bright colors, we are seeing a lot of ladies coming in for "Summertime pearls". Your summer set of pearls are a little different; they are more metal and less pearl. It is a nice combination of casual meets formal and is completely appropriate for any summer occasion. We recently got in a fabulous new collection by Imperal Pearl. It is all sparkly sterling silver beads with natural fresh water pearls. It glitters like you wouldn't believe and starts at only $175! This line is something you have to see in person to truly appreciate how beautifully done it is. They may just be the perfect self indulgence or birthday gift for your August baby? (Hint Hint...)
With the Fourth of July just around the corner, it reminds us how lucky we are to live here in the United States of America. We especially want to remember all those who have fought for the freedom we are so fortunate to enjoy today and all of those who are currently fighting for us to keep that freedom. A little way that we can honor those people is by expressing our patriotism, starting with the holiday weekend. One great (and fasionable) way of doing this is by wearing some fabulous patriotic jewelry. How about a ruby, sapphire and diamond encrusted American flag pendant? Or a nice solid 14K gold lapel pin worn proudly while singing the national anthem? Anything in those patriotic colors works great and there are many are wonderful jewel colors to achieve this look. Wear that red white and blue jewelry proudly. All are sure to glitter under those bright fireworks of the Fourth and then help you express your pride onward through the year. From all of the Collins staff, have a safe and happy Fourth of July. God Bless America!
Yes, it must be wedding season! We are seeing many "brides and grooms to-be" in in our store. They are coming in for wedding bands as well as wedding jewelry. Wedding jewelry entails pearls and diamonds for her and watches for him. I love wedding jewelry for the simple fact that the bride gets to be adorned in my favorite jewelery... pearls, diamonds and something blue! One of my favorite wedding season moments is when the bride comes into our store looking for a wedding gift for her furture husband. She will often leave with a timeless timepiece with a hand engraved message on the the back. Wedding gifts from new husband to wife and vice versa are someting that neither will ever forget. It is the moment on their wedding day when they are acutally creating family herlooms. I have to admit that I have gotten a few sneak peaks at wedding dresses just to make sure I match the jewelry to the neckline (what a privilege!) It's essentional for us to see a picture of the dress on the bride. It allows us to outfit her with jewelry that will make the photos and the day itself even more memorable.
When you hear about rose gold, it may be referred to as strawberry gold or pink gold. Rose gold is not only for women, but men as well. We are seeing more and more people coming in asking for rose gold. It is a mixture of 14 or 18 karat gold mixed with a little copper and less silver to make the most beautiful shade of pink gold. In jewelry manufacturing we alloy all our own metals; this ensures the most lustrous color and finish. When you do go to buy your piece of rose gold jewelry, a smart pairing would be chocolate diamonds, a pink gemstone, or just white diamonds! Some of my favorite items in rose gold right now are watches too. Nixon and Michele both make a great looking rose gold watch. Stand out from the crowd of stainless steel "watch wearers" and go with a gorgeous rose gold option! They use high quality plating that ensures the color will last longer than most competitors. Below I show a picture of the newest addition to my personal collection; and not to mention, it goes great with my Simon G rose gold and diamond ring!
This is the month we've been waiting for ... April babies are the luckiest becuase their birthstone is a diamond! So, what better to do this month than brush up on our diamond education? As the buyer for our store, these are some the diamond buying tricks I stick to:
- When you are buying a diamond you need to know the 4 C's, Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat Weight. Don't skimp on the Cut; if a diamond isn't cut well, it simply won't sparkle.
- If it is over .50ct, it should come accompanied by a G.I.A. (Gemological Institute of America) certificate.
- The most important thing when buying a diamond is to buy it loose and in person, not over the internet!
- If you are buying diamond jewelery and it is not comprised of a single large stone, then it is fine to buy pre-mounted. Just make sure that there is a warranty with the setting of the small stones. For example, SIMON G. gewelry gives a FREE lifetime warranty with purchace on the accent diamonds in all of their jewelery.
